Kingwood Center GardensCome and explore the grounds featuring 47 exquisite acres renowned for both their historic significance and outstanding gardens. Tour the French Provincial-style mansion, the exotic plant life in the greenhouses and browse the Garden Shop for the diverse selection of plants and garden goods.
Kingwood Center Gardens recently built and opened the Garden Gateway Visitor Center (October 2020) which features new garden and terrace areas, an exhibit gallery highlighting the legacy of Mr. Charles King, Garden Gateway Cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, gift shop and greenhouse store.
Ohio State ReformatoryVisitors flock to the Ohio State Reformatory from around the world. Explore 250,000 sq. ft. of the historic halls and visit the cells of history’s toughest criminals. See the filming sites of The Shawshank Redemption or tour the new Shawshank Museum.
Ohio Bird SanctuaryGet up close with over 30 different species of native songbirds and raptors, that due to an injury can no longer survive in the wild. These birds permanently reside at the Ohio Bird Sanctuary as ambassadors for their species. Make sure to bring good shoes for a walk; after you’ve seen the birds, hike the 90-acre nature preserve through marshes and old growth forests.
Malabar Farm State ParkMalabar Farm State Park has more to explore than you may think! Over 900 acres includes the country estate of Louis Bromfield where Hollywood stars Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were married. Walk through the barn and visit the animals, ride a farm wagon, explore the caves on the Butternut Trail or hike the many trails. Climb to the top of Mt. Jeez and get a breathtaking view of the rolling hills of the Pleasant Valley.
Mansfield Memorial MuseumMansfield Memorial Museum, where the world’s first and oldest surviving American robot named Elektro is on display, is an eccentric must-see for many visitors. Visit Richland County’s oldest museum and explore two floors of local treasures and artifacts from prehistoric to modern times. Exhibits include the history of local beer brewers and bottlers as well as large military exhibit featuring many model military vehicles, tanks, armored vehicles, and planes.
Mansfield Art CenterThe Mansfield Art Center’s award-winning, modern wood and glass building sits on 8.5 acres of wooded meadow. The annual exhibition schedule includes a mix of curated, juried, invitational, and traveling exhibitions. The center features an award winning gallery shop stocked with Ohio artists and craft makers who produce some of the finest pottery, jewelry, paintings, sculptures, glass-ware, wood turnings and more.
Mohican Adventures Canoe & Fun CenterOhio’s first and finest canoe livery, the Mohican Adventures Canoe and Fun Center offers paddling trips from 2 hours to 5 hours on the scenic Mohican River. Leasing canoes, kayaks, rafts and tubes to accommodate everyone’s floating adventure.
