Opera & Art 2016

Mark your calendars for an exciting week of hands on events celebrating the beauty of the human voice and the creativity of the human mind. For the first time, Mid-Ohio Opera and M.A.D. Studios will come together to present Opera & Art 2016, a multimedia experience for all ages. With several events to choose from, there is sure to be something for everyone – including a piece of community art for you to help create!

July 6th 10:00 AM & 1:00 PM- Arias & Art
How does music make you feel? In this fun workshop, students will have the opportunity to learn about what opera is, hear what it sounds like, and express their feelings about the music by creating a unique piece of art. Space is limited, so reserve your child’s spot today!  There are two sessions available: 10:00 AM for ages 5 – 12 and 1:00 PM for ages 13 – 18

July 7th 6:00 PM – Just What Is An Opera Anyway?
In this small group workshop, we’ll dispel those pesky myths that make opera so intimidating by watching a famous production in a casual setting. We’ll chat about what makes opera so unique, how it is still relevant, and what we can do to use art to heal the community. Bring open ears, open minds, and all your questions! Space is limited, so reserve your spot today! Ages 18 and up.

July 8th 6:00 PM – Canvas & Crescendos
A night of live opera and live painting that is sure to be a blast! There will also be a community canvas created this night artist or not, this is definitely for you.

July 10 4:00 PM – Rennaissance & Remembrance: A Musical Celebration of Black History Featuring Guest Artist,Stephanie Ann Ball
In this significant concert, music and words come together through the sound of the voice to take you, the audience, on a journey through opera, art song, jazz, and spirituals – all highlighting the many ways African Americans have made a lasting impact on many forms of music we experience in today’s world. Featuring the music of Puccini, William Grant Still, Fats Waller, Moses Hogan and more, you are sure to hear something that will delight your senses.(Located at OASIS OF LOVE CHURCH, 190 Chester Ave, Mansfield, Ohio 44903)
