Feel the thrill of speed on Richland County’s two race tracks. Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course brings in big-name auto and motorcycle racing each year on its 2.25-mile road course. Or, take it back to classic dirt track racing at the Mansfield Motor Speedway.

Picking Your Own?

Apple Hill Orchards and The Blueberry Patch feature apples, peaches, blueberries, raspberries, and pumpkins for the picking as well as famous mouthwatering apple and blueberry donuts served hot daily! Don’t have time to pick your own? Visit one of the area’s farm markets for fresh veggies, baked goods, Amish cheeses and live plants.

To Stop and Smell the Flowers?

Richland County is gorgeous in any season. Kingwood Center Gardens offers rare and diverse plants, peacocks and more. Alta Florist & Greenhouse, Wade Gardens and Wade & Gatton Nurseries make it easy to see beautiful flowers you can take home with you as a special gift or landscaping project. Wander through nature along the paths at Gorman Nature Center and the Ohio Bird Sanctuary.

Being in the Middle of It All?

Park for free and explore Central Park or downtown Mansfield’s Historic Carrousel District. Bring the kids and ride on the hand-carved wooden Carrousel or make learning fun at Little Buckeye Children’s Museum. Sit back at Relax, It’s Just Coffee and the Blackbird Bakery. Join in with First Friday Shop Hops and Farmer’s Markets during the day or come down after dark, when restaurants, a winery (Cypress Hill), and a craft brewery (The Phoenix Brewery) come to life

Playing in the Snow?

Fun doesn’t hibernate here! Snow Trails guarantees snow, offering great downhill skiing and snowboarding for seasoned pros or a newbie seeking lessons. Don’t ski or snow board? No problem. You can get in on the fun at their snow tubing run. Cross-country skiing is available around the region.


Richland County is steeped in fascinating American and Ohio history and makes it easy to discover it all. The first weekend in May, RichHistory Weekend is packed with events that bring our most exciting past to life. One of the United States’ largest military shows, the Ohio Civil War & Artillery Show, takes place during this unforgettable three-day, county-wide event.


The area has a history with Hollywood dating back to the 1930s. You can visit the sites where major motion pictures were filmed (The Ohio State Reformatory), or television shows were shot (Haunted Bissman Building and Ceely Rose House). The Shawshank Trail lets you see the 15 Shawshank Redemption filming sites firsthand. Malabar Farm State Park was the home of author and screenwriter Louis Bromfield and where Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall tied the knot.

Playing Outdoors?

Tee off at Deer Ridge Golf Club where a mind-blowing 500-yard tee-to-green drop earned the club the label “one of golf’s best values.” Zipline through the tree tops at Tree Frog Canopy Tours. Canoe, kayak or jet ski at Pleasant Hill Lake Park or Charles Mill Lake Park. Go paintballing at Battle Zone Paintball Park III. The possibilities for outdoor adventure are endless.

The Local Food Scene?

Farm fresh food is around every corner. Restaurants, inns, farms and markets feature locally-sourced meat and produce. Experience down-home flavors of The Malabar Farm Restaurant and local ingredients and wines made on site at Wishmaker House Bed & Breakfast. From a homemade Amish buffet or family style dinner at Der Dutchman to the famous race fan hangout for burgers at Buck’s, Mansfield’s food scene is laid-back, local and one-of-a-kind.
