SCCA Returns to Mid-Ohio

The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) returns to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for their 53rd National Championship.  The SCCA National Championship Runoffs, with presenting sponsor Garmin VIRB, runs September 19-25, 2016. This is the first time the Runoffs have been held at Mid-Ohio since 2005 (1994-2005) and we are excited for the chance to showcase our area’s legendary hospitality to this group again. The CVB is onsite all week in a Welcome Booth at the track to connect SCCA to all the community resources and a Welcome Dinner for drivers, crews and workers on Monday night to kick off the week.

Through the efforts of the community via the Mansfield/Richland County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Richland Hospitality, we welcome this group who will essentially be living here for 10-14 days. Drivers, crews, workers, and fans will purchase goods and services locally: hotels, restaurants, kennels, grocery stores, attractions, repair shops. This is significant as the Runoffs bring in about $7,000,000 in economic impact a year ($84,000 since 1994!). Since the group makes such an impact on our local businesses, we roll out the red carpet. The 2016 SCCA National Championship Runoffs showcases the most prestigious amateur road racers in the United States. There are 28 different classes of racers coming to Mid-Ohio for the Runoffs, which is known as one of the greatest racetracks in the United States.

The Mansfield/Richland County Convention and Visitors Bureau hosts a Richland County Welcome Dinner for the drivers and workers to thank them for hosting the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. According to many SCCA members, no other host community treats them as good as Richland County.  The CVB also acts as a concierge to the community by operating the Welcome Booth at the track all week. We help them find services, dinner reservations and even provide a cup of coffee or a locally grown apple throughout the week. The booth is staffed by CVB staff & volunteers, mayors, county commissioners, business owners, race fans and even you! This high level of hospitality wouldn’t be possible without community sponsors and partners.  We want SCCA to host the Runoffs here in future years and hospitality rounds out the race experience for the event.

In addition to high caliber competition, the group showcases exceptional camaraderie including the 5K & Checkered Flag Dash, all proceeds benefit Cleveland Clinic Children’s and Maxton’s Fight in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This event is on Saturday, September 24th at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Welcome back SCCA National Championship Runoffs! Come on out to watch and cheer on the best amateur drivers in the country in your own backyard. Tickets available at www.MidOhio.com.
