May Happenings and Events

May is here and it brought a flurry of activity with it! The first weekend of the month was packed with events, but here’s what’s going on throughout the rest of May. Festivals, special exhibits, and a racing world championship are on deck, but what are you going to put on your calendar?

On Display

Special exhibitions are here! Check out the Discover NASA Space Exhibit at the Mansfield-Richland County Public Library (Through May 30). Admire the hand-crafted beauty of Paper Gardens by Lea Gray at Kingwood Center Gardens (Through August 31). If you’re looking for Halloween in May, the Ohio Halloween & Haunters Convention 2019 (May 17-19) takes place at the Ohio State Reformatory for the first time.

On Tap

Reserve your tables now for the WMFD Pour One Nine Beerfest at the Ohio State Reformatory (May 9). Come and enjoy over 25 of Ohio’s finest brews and wines in a venue unlike any other in Ohio. Bands, food, wine, cell block tours, and the opportunity to go on a Ghost Walk in the dark. On Wheels

Ride on over to Bike-A-Palooza Family Festival (May 18) at the Northlake Park Pavilion. Sponsored by Mansfield Police Department, this free family event will feature bike rides with a cop, bicycle safety rodeo, bicycle raffle, bike inspection, small bike repairs, the Mansfield Fire Department House of Hazards, Face painting, family entertainment, food and much more.

On the Table

Experience the tastes and sounds of Greece at the 2019 Greek Festival (May 17-19) at St Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Come hungry! All food is priced a la carte and will feature homemade Greek Specialties like Lamb Shanks, Gyro, Souvlaki, Pastitchio, Dolmathes, Greek Meatballs, Spanakopita, Tyropita, Tsourekia, Baklava, and so much more.

On the Right Track

Get your tickets for the Sprint Car World Championship at Mansfield Motor Speedway (May 30-June 1). The new Backstretch Club Suites are available for this event. On the Stage

Catch a performance! The Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre presents “Thespis” with “Hercules” at The Renaissance Theatre (May 25 & 26). Don’t miss Mozart’s “Everyone is Like That”, or Cosi Fan Tutte at The Ohio State University Mansfield Campus (May 10, 12, 17 & 19) or the musical comedy of disastrous proportions, The Last Act (May 17-19) at Theatre 166.

On the Farm

Watch the Central Ohio Draft Horse Association members show off their plowing skills at Spring Plowing Days at Malabar Farm State Park (May 18 & 19). This event will include fun contests for the whole family in the working farm area. The Bromfield tradition continues on with the Malabar Barn Dance (May 25) in the main barn. Dance the night away square and line dancing with live music and a caller. Beginners are welcome!
