Mansfield is for Art Lovers

Mansfield and the surrounding community offers plenty of art galleries and interactive experiences. With many galleries and shops open to the public, Mansfield presents a variety of hands-on experiences as well as numerous pieces and art exhibits to enjoy.

Mansfield houses art galleries and stores throughout the city, including ArtSpace, Element of Art Studio and Gallery, the Mansfield Art Center, and the Pearl Conard Art Gallery. Each gallery provides its own unique niche and focus.

Element of Art presents a truly one-of-a-kind experience. The studio operates as a non-profit organization that promotes and supports artists from the Richland County area with developmental disabilities. There are often sales and auctions for the public to buy artwork, which provides a productive income to artists. The studio even offers the chance to come watch and interact with the artists as they are creating their art.

The Mansfield Art Center contains an art museum and gallery. The Art Center’s goal is to “enrich the lives of families through arts with gallery exhibitions, art education, artist workshops, and related activities.” The center invites changing and traveling exhibits so viewers can enjoy new art. Travelling exhibits generally stay up for 1-3 months at a time, most with free admission. In addition to the larger gallery, the Mansfield Art Center offers classes for children, adults, and even some for the whole family. Some classes include acting, glass fusion, self-portraits, kid’s film camp, veteran’s self-expression and more. In addition to classes, the center includes other activities such as their Cork and Easel events, where people can come and paint with step-by-step instructions, socialize, and enjoy a glass of wine. The center also offers children’s classes, family painting events, and a gift shop.

ArtSpace offers a small gallery and art shop in downtown Mansfield. ArtsSpace contains many beautiful paintings and other works of art, such as jewelry, ceramics, and woodworking for purchase. ArtSpace specifically likes to highlight local artists in the Mansfield area and Richland County. They feature local artists during Mansfield’s Shop Hop event, where an artist may create a piece in front of the store.

The Pearl Conard Gallery, the Ohio State University gallery which showcases Ohio State art students, changes exhibits once a year. The Pearl Conard Gallery originally received funding to be founded in the 1980’s as a gift from John and Pearl Conard Foundation. The Pearl Conard Gallery currently seeks artwork for the gallery’s 2018/19 season.

Residents and visitors alike find a vibrant art scene in Richland County. Whether you’re looking for a custom gift, want to take an art class, or just want to spend an afternoon enjoying art, the area awaits!
