August is just around the corner, and so is even more summer fun! The Destination Mansfield-Richland County Calendar of Events is full of everything from ballet to blueberries to boating.

The month of August has a fair and festival for everyone. Does anything feel more like summer than a funnel cake and a turn on the Ferris wheel? Come to the Richland County Fair (Aug 5-11) for a week of your favorite rides, foods and entertainment. Or how about Ohio’s only blueberry festival? Stop by the Lexington Blueberry Festival (Aug 16-19) for parades, kids games, rides, craft vendors, live entertainment, fireworks and a 5K run/walk! Finish off your month with one of car enthusiast’s favorite events in Mansfield: the 23rd Annual Heart of the City Cruise In (Aug 25). See the cars while listening to live music from the gazebo. If you’re in the mood for a treasure hunt, you never know what you’ll find at the Ohio Lincoln Highway BUY-WAY Yard Sale (Aug 9-10).

With two race tracks located here in Richland County, there will be plenty of racing action this August. NASCAR takes over the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for its sixth annual NASCAR XFINITY Series: Mid-Ohio Challenge 200 (Aug 10-11). Racing fans also won’t want to miss the chance to kick up some dust with the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals (Aug 10-11) and Dirt Million (Aug 24-25) at Mansfield Motor Speedway.

Need a dose of the arts? The Hampstead Stage Co. presents American Folktales & Songs (Aug 1) at Kingwood Center Gardens. For the 5th consecutive summer, NEOS Dance Theater brings dance, art and music to the Brickyard with Ballet @ the Brickyard and Art in the Alley (Aug 4). This interactive event is now free to all so bring a chair and enjoy the show! If you would like the VIP treatment, VIP tickets cost $65 and provide access to the beautifully decorated VIP area with an open bar, fine foods, desserts, cigars, and more. Seating will be provided in both the VIP area and for the performance. Come see the best fine art, food and drinks Mansfield has to offer. Catch a showing of Newsies: The Broadway Musical (Aug 4-5) at the Renaissance Theater or a concert in the park with the Ontario Concerts in the Park Series (Aug 14 & 28). Poets and poetry appreciators are invited to hear the work of two Ohio poets on the 3rd Saturday of every month with Borderlands: Poetry on the Edge (Aug 18) at Main Street Books.

It’s time to break out those life jackets. Opportunities abound for kayakers of all experience levels. Learn to Kayak (Aug 5) at Pleasant Hill Lake Park. This entry level course is a perfect introduction to kayak equipment, paddling technique, and safety skills. Apply what you’ve learned with Twilight Kayaking Tours (Aug 17) and Moonlight Kayaking Tours (Aug 26) at Pleasant Hill Lake Park. They also offer a FREE Kayak Try-It Day (Aug 25) for your chance to try a variety of different kayaks.
