Racing season is back in Mansfield, Ohio. If you love cars, whether as a collector, a mechanic or a race fan, you are going to want to be here this summer.
Start Your Engines: It’s Racing Season
The Richland County area features two major race tracks for race fans all across the country. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington kicks off their season with The Vintage Grand Prix June 23-25, featuring vintage racing cars such as Spitfires, Trans-Ams and Aston Martins. In addition to on-track racing, there are education classes and car corrals full of car club bests. For the motorcyclist, spend your weekend at the one-of-a-kind AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days July 7-9. Enjoy stunt shows, off and on-road racing, classic bikes, auctions and the largest motorcycle Swap Meet in North America. A must see for the motorcycle enthusiast. Reserve your tickets for the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio (July 28-30) as Ohio native Graham Rahal returns to his home track as he tries for a repeat of his 2015 win. Mid-Ohio caps off the season with The NASCAR XFINITY Series: Mid-Ohio Challenge 200 Aug 11-12. Hear the roar and feel the speed as NASCAR returns to Richland County for their fifth year.
Mansfield Motor Speedway features an authentic dirt track and starts off the summer with a bang at The All-Star Sprints Memorial Classic May 28. Celebrate your Fourth of July weekend at The Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series Freedom 50 on July 2 followed by fireworks! Get in on the second and third rounds of tough competition between the 410 sprint cars at The Triple Crown Spring Series July 16 and Aug 13. Come to the big finish of the season as 715 sprint cars race for the gold at The Great Lakes Dirt Nationals August 11-12. Gear up for fall with the AMA Flat Track Bikes race on September 17.
Get the family working together and enter your own car in The All American Soap Box Derby. Downtown Mansfield will host the annual Gravity Race on June 24th. Kids ages 7-17 are encouraged to compete for division prizes and a chance to go on to the championships in Akron.
Cruise-In and Stay Awhile
Take a break from the fast paced race track and enjoy the cars up close and personal. Start off at The Ohio State Reformatory May 27-28 for The Dropt n Destroyed car and truck show. See the Der Dutchman monthly Cruise-ins on the first Thursdays Jun 8 – Oct 4. Be at the inaugural Renaissance Rock ‘n’ Roll Car Festival June 25th. Live music will be featured during the show. Spectators are free! Enjoy classic cars and free plane rides for kids at the Mansfield Airport Day and Car Show July 1. Breakfast and lunch will be served. The Malabar Farm Foundation is sponsoring a Louis Bromfield inspired Sunday Drive Car Show on July 30, featuring authentic cars, food and music. Come to one of the best car shows in Ohio right here in downtown Mansfield. The 22nd Annual Heart of the City Cruise-In (Aug 26) will feature all of your favorite cars, entertainment, vendors, food, activities for kids, door prizes for adults and awards for specially selected car entries.
