Sentimental Journey: Voices of World War II is a musical tribute to the heroes of World War II - the ordinary men and women who did extraordinary things - whether on the front lines or the home front.  Over 100 veterans, their wives and children were interviewed for this project, and their collected stories, both harrowing and hilarious, are woven into the tapestry of this one-of-a-kind musical revue that features 32 of the best-loved songs of the 1940s. With an eight piece Big Band combo accompanying a cast of local favorites, including Mike Miller, Adena Williams, Sarah Herald, Brandon Smith, Virginia Imhoff, Claire Clemens, Jack Roseberry and Harold Kirkpatrick, and song hits that include "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "In the Mood", "Moonlight Serenade", "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "I'll Be Seeing You", Sentimental Journey explores both the sorrow and joy of WWII.  Popular music played an important role during the war, boosting the morale of troops and civilians who were suffering through some of the darkest days our country has known.  Because this was also the first mass media war, these songs gained popularity across the globe and provided a touchstone for the men and women who were serving their country halfway around the world.  GIs only had to turn on their radios to be reminded of home, hearth and distant loved ones.

Conceived, written and directed by Renaissance playwright-in-residence, Michael Thomas, Sentimental Journey: Voices of World War II with its message of love, loss, longing and, ultimately, hope, transcends time to touch on subjects just as relevant today as they were almost seven decades ago.  Inspired by the stories he heard from his father, a survivor of the Omaha Beach/D-Day invasion, Thomas created the show to not only honor the veterans of WWII, but also to recognize the commitment and dedication of every man and woman who's sacrificed and served in the armed forces throughout the years.
