NOVEMBER HAPPENINGS

With the colors of fall fading away, it’s time to fill up your calendar with the sights, sounds, and tastes of November. Next month’s calendar is full of wonderful options around the Mansfield area!  From cooking your turkey over an open fire to creating your own art at a Cork and Easle event, November delivers new experiences.

Who Ya Gonna Call?

As the Halloween season comes to an end, there is still one last thing ghost lovers can do. The Haunted Bissman Building hosts a public ghost walk on November 5th starting at 9pm with doors opening at 8:30. As you walk through in total darkness with only a flash light, explore areas of this historic building as seen on SyFy’s Ghost Hunters for only $10 and tickets DO NOT sell out! 

Celebrating Small Business in Your Area

November leads to the biggest shopping season of the year, so head downtown and join Historic Downtown Mansfield for the First Friday Shop Hop on November 4th beginning at 5:00. Over fifty independent businesses now populate the city center and many will be open for your shopping needs. During First Friday, visit the Pheonix Brewing Company with live entertainment starting at 8pm. Also, the Richland Carrousel Park is having a Family Fun Night with ride tickets will be 5 rides for $2. Later in the month on Thanksgiving weekend, head to the Flea Market & Antique Show on the 26th and the 27th from 9am-4pm at the Richland County Fairgrounds for and enjoy antiques and items you can’t find anywhere else.  Maybe buy a gift or two with Christmas season right around the corner! On November 26th support national Small Business Saturday and kick off the shopping season by visiting the local shops around Mansfield and Richland County.

It’s Turkey Time

Do you love your Thanksgiving meal? Does it need a little something new? Then register today at Malabar Farm State Park for their Hearthside Cooking Workshop. Here you will learn to cook like the pioneers. While cooking a traditional Thanksgiving meal, you will be using farm fresh foods, cast iron cookware and an open hearth. The workshop takes place on November 5th and 6th for just enough time to perfect your Turkey cooking skills! You must register and space is limited! And officially usher in the festivities at the annual Holiday Parade on November 19th starting at 10am at the corner of 5th Street and Main Street in Downtown Mansfield.

Theatre, Art, and More!

Coming soon to a theatre near you, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar hits the stage at The Ohio State Mansfield Theatre on November 4th, 5th, and 6th. Some of the most quoted lines in all of Shakespeare’s works highlight this tragedy about politics and deceit. With General admission only $7 this is not something that you would want to miss! Coming on the 11th, 12th, and the 18th, 19th the Mansfield Playhouse invites you to It’s Only Murder, a comedy with murder, betrayal, a lot of surprises and a ton of laughs. The Renaissance Theater welcomes all to their production of A Christmas Carol. Come and enjoy this Christmas classic on one of the four days! November 12th, 13th, 19th, and the 20th. One thing that you don’t want to miss is The Fuse Factory Electronic and Digital Art Lab’s 2016 Juried Exhibition at the Pearl Conard Art Gallery. Hosted by The Fuse Factory, this exhibition will explore technology-based new media and digital arts along with a series of hand-on art workshops and lectures. From November 14th through the 18th with no entry fee, come enjoy a new way of looking at and appreciating art.

Paint and Crafts

As it starts to get a little bit chillier outside, take the fun indoors. Ever want to give painting a try?  On November 3rd, City Grille is hosting Vine Art Wine and Paint. Come enjoy some local wine from Cypress Hill winery and learn to paint a seasonal picture. Register at the  “Vine Art Events”. You can also attend Cork and Easel at the Mansfield Art Center on November 11th and the 26th from 6:30-9pm. Come with your favorite snack and beverage while you paint the night away. The best part is that no experience is needed for this fun filled night.

Live Music

Looking for a calm night out with your friends in November? Well look no further, every Friday and Saturday night at The Phoenix Brewing Company from 8-11pm kick back and relax with live music performed by local musicians. Come enjoy a locally brewed beer and support our local musicians such as; Rockbridge Crossing, Jai Merina, Rollin Porter, Felt, and many more! Many sites on the Wine & Ale trail continue to offer live music in the winter months too.

Ohio State Reformatory

With all things scary finally over, The Ohio State Reformatory,  Historical Tours of the famous prison begin for a limited time. Tours resume on Black Friday, Nov. 25th, and run from 11am to 4pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through December 18. Be sure to stop in and take a tour before they close for the winter.

Christmas Time is Here!

With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s time to find your festive spirit.  Kick off the season at the Mansfield Art Center on November 4th  with the monthly Family Art Night where you and your whole family can come and make Christmas ornaments made out of clay. Start a new tradition. Another Holly Jolly event this month is Christmas at Kingwood 2016, showcasing live music, dozens of uniquely trimmed Christmas trees, a beautifully decorated Greenhouse, and many outdoor light displays to enjoy and walk through. Come put yourself in the Christmas mood from November 26th through December 30th.
