Autumn Festivals & Harvest Celebrations

Autumn signals the end of summer but the beginning of Ohio’s explosion of fall foliage. As we observe the trees mesmerizing color conversions we begin our own metamorphosis. We bundle ourselves in warm fuzzy sweaters or our favorite football sweatshirts. Pushing back Fall’s chill we join our family, friends and neighbors for Autumn festivals, Harvest parties and Halloween fun like Kingwood Center’s The Great Pumpkin Glow. Fall Kids Night at Wayne’s Country Market, Apple Hill Orchards Harvest Moon Hayride, Malabar Farms Harvest Barn Dance & the Butler Apple Fest are just a few highlights of the season.

The Barnyard is Richland County’s newest premier fall destination open for 5 weeks from September 24-October 23 providing fun for the whole family.

Family Friendly Halloween Fun

Do your children have their Halloween costumes picked out? Do you have yours? This is the month all kids wait for. Candy, costumes and Trick or Treat! Be sure to join the Monsterfield Masquerade: Downtown Trick or Treat and Halloween Parade. Both Charles Mill & Pleasant Hill Lake Parks have created Halloween Campout Weekends. Want to get the kids squirming? Visit Gorman Natures Creepy Critters! They can also see their favorite big green ogres at the Mansfield Playhouse’s Shrek The Musical JR.

Are You A “Hair Raising Spine Chilling” Haunt Fan?

Mansfield is the Haunted Capital of Ohio. Paranormal investigators from around the globe travel year round to explore our locations but how many are brave enough to do it during Halloween? Hollywood horror specialist Robert Kurtzman and his team at Creature Corp have transformed the Ohio State Reformatory into the 2016 Paranormal Penitentiary. If that’s not enough to quench your thrill seeking, Perrysville is giving Lessons in Fear: Haunted School House or you can attempt The Trail of Nightmares: Journey into Fear. Haunted Bissman Building will continue their paranormal investigations and public Ghost Walks or you can solve a Murder Mystery at Brownella Cottage’s LIVE Clue Game.

Fall Walks/Hikes & 5k’s

For those of you looking to get your heart racing in a different way. Richland County Health Department is sponsoring Hike for Health, Malabar Farm offers a guided Fall Color Hike, Butler Apple Fest’s 5K Walk/Run or you can Run with the Dead at Levels Gym’s 5K and Trophy Scavenger Hunt5K.

Fall Foliage Inspires ART

How can you experience Fall in Ohio and not be inspired to create? Our art community offers several opportunities to make Autumn masterpieces this month. Vine Art Wine and Paint at City Grille, Cork & Easel at Mansfield Art Center, Paint and Punch Class At Kingwood and Floral Design & Wine at The Mill.

Oktoberfest

We can’t end this post without mentioning Oktoberfest. It is October after all! Phoenix Brewing Company kicks off the month with their 2nd Annual Oktoberfest. Brats and Kraut, Polka, LIVE music and of course Orange Eyes Pumpkin Ale !
