One of the Midwest’s finest “Rails to Trails” offerings is found in RichlandCounty. The 18.4-mile B&O bike trail rambles through some of the state’s most scenic areas. It also takes you through unique the smaller towns of Lexington, Belleville and Butler, each peppered with diners, antique shops and all-American charm. Visitors can rent bikes and inline skates -- or just walk the trail.
In winter, downhill and cross country snow skiing and snow boarding are offered in the area. Snow Trails Ski Resort and Clear Fork Ski Area offer downhill skiing, as well as snowmaking (when Mother Nature takes a winter day off) and several chair lifts. Both resorts feature regular special events, including night skiing. Malabar Farm State Park offers excellent cross country conditions, with skis available to rent.
In addition, area camping, canoeing and fishing options abound. Clear Fork and Charles Mill Lake feature campgrounds, swimming, marinas with boat rentals and regular special events. Neighboring Ashland County offers additional hiking and outdoor activities at Mohican State Park.
